Best Hair Treatment For Natural Hair – Did you know that your hair is made of a protein called keratin? Our hairstyles and care, sun tools and heat can deplete protein day by day, so it’s important to treat our hair with protein every now and then to help protect it.
You may need a protein treatment if you find that your hairstyle isn’t holding as well as you’d like it to and isn’t holding moisture – these are usually signs that your hair needs more protein.
Best Hair Treatment For Natural Hair
Protein treatments are basically strengthening treatments with ingredients like Keratin, Hydrolyzed Protein and Amino Acids – they bind these ingredients to the hair follicle to fill all the gaps and strengthen the cuticle layer to temporarily repair the hair and make it more resistant to damage.
Best Leave In Conditioners For Curly And Natural Hair
In addition, there are two main types of protein treatments, namely heavy protein treatments (for example, a reconstructor such as Aphrogee Two Step Protein Treatment for Dextered Hair) and light protein treatments deep conditioners – I choose the latter.
4c Natural hair is tightly coiled, fragile and prone to breakage, protein treatments are essential for hair protection and essential in your hair journey. During my natural hair journey I have tried many protein treatments on 4c hair and below are my…
Palmer’s Manuka Flower Honey Protein Pack Conditioner has a rich and creamy texture. This is one of my OG products from the beginning of my natural hair journey… this lil bag is packed with cocoa butter, shea butter, amla oil, manuka honey and keratin to help restore moisture and shine. It always gives my hair a boost and makes it feel and smell like a sweet flower. I usually leave it on for 35 minutes before washing it off, but you can leave it on overnight.
Shea Nami’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Firming & Revitalizing Treatment Mask is a staple of many natural products! I love the texture and the smell. It contains several nutritionally rich ingredients, such as Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV), which has anti-inflammatory properties, soothes itchy skin, and peppermint bark is uplifting. After leaving it on my hair for an hour without heat, it strengthens and repairs the hair (you can leave it on with heat for 10-15 minutes). For me it works especially well after a Jamaican Black Castor Oil shampoo with ACV that has Apple Cider Vinegar (shampoo coming soon!).
Best Natural Hair Conditioners At Home For Shiny And Healthy Hair
While the word boost in the product name indicates that this mask formula has a good level of protein, the product label emphasizes that it contains plant proteins. My hair loves this mask and I have previously shared my thoughts on it in my ActiveLonging ActiveForce Black Castor Oil review. The Actiforce Black Castor Oil Strengthening Mask is always on my shopping list and one of my recommendations because of the super creamy consistency, great glide and because of the rich ingredients a little goes a long way. I usually use the tube four times (maybe get more if I wasn’t heavy with the product…). Also, I usually leave this Actilong Fortifying Care mask on for at least 30 minutes.
Another thick cream mask from Palmer with a lovely coconut scent that can be left on for 10 to 20 minutes or overnight is the Coconut Oil Protein Pack. My curls always come out after using this Protein Palmer and they stay so soft! It also has coconut milk in the formula, and if you know me, I’m obsessed with all things coconut… Coconut milk contains lauric acid (which has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties), high in protein. and full of beneficial vitamins. , very moisturizing and help with unstable or damaged hair.
I’ve found that these strengthening protein treatments work really well – what I usually use depends on when my hair needs that type of treatment. I recommend using these protein conditioners at least once or twice a month depending on the health of your hair. Strong protein treatments like Aphrogee should be used infrequently, ie once every 6 to 8 weeks, followed by a moisturizing conditioner. However, don’t forget to listen to what your hair needs and one of the keys to healthy 4c hair and any hair. The key to this is the right balance of moisture and protein. Finally, I recommend making a note in your diary/calendar when you use any protein boosting treatments so you don’t overload your hair with protein.
Have you tried any of these protein treatments? Do you have any other recommendations? Let me know in the comments!
